polyester fabric biodegradable

Polyester fabrics are literally surrounding us! They can be used in multiple applications, including clothes, bed sheets, curtains, and even car interiors. The outlawed polyester is popular because it is strong, doesn’t wrinkle easily, and isn’t prohibitively expensive. But it is good to be aware that polyester is a synthetic, chemical-made material. There are some chemicals that can hurt our environment. They don’t decompose easily, which means they can contaminate our lovely planet. As a result, biodegradable polyester fabric is gaining popularity. Biodegradable polyester fabric is something unique fabric which can decompose naturally. That means it’s far more environmentally friendly as it leaves no toxic waste behind.

But now polyester fabric can be made biodegradable, using plants such as corn and soybeans, due to new ideas. These are easy to grow and available widely. They are called renewable resources because they can be grown over and over without damage to the earth. Microorganisms are tiny living things that can be used to create biodegradable polyester fabric. Microorganisms can chow down on the fabric, aiding in its natural decomposition. So when you dispose of biodegradable polyester fabric it is broken down without the remnants of chemicals or waste that most other materials produce. The wonderful thing about biodegradable polyester fabric is that it is as strong and inexpensive to make as normal polyester fabric! It’s also far more compassionate to our planet.

Polyester Fabric Goes Biodegradable

Then there is a process of Hydrolysis to make the polyester fabric biodegradable. Hydrolysis is a more natural process in which water assists in breakdown into a smaller piece. Polyester fabric hydrolysis reduces it to smaller building blocks called monomers. These monomers are tiny building blocks that can be further decomposed by natural microbes, such as bacteria and fungi. This process helps polyester fabric decompose naturally without doing damage to our environment.
